Radio has determined that vintage classic songs are vastly more viable than contemporary music, and along comes a band that manifests itself as alternative, by taking the formulas that made the greats great, while simultaneously treading new and original water. This band is The Black Keys. Hailing from Akron, Ohio, they are the musical duo of vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer/producer Patrick Carney. The Black Keys, (often compared to the White Stripes) are a duo with a big sound. Auerbach and Carney’s music is wrought with organic blues-rock guitar, snappy drums, and lyrics chiseled out of our time. The Black Keys’ latest album “Attack and Release” falls in line with what has made the band a success in the eyes of critics for years. Songs like “I Got Mine” and “Strange Times”, like the music in the 1960′s and 70′s, seem to capture the feelings, and atmospheres of the world today.
12 reporting commercial radio stations in medium and large size markets in the United States are currently playing the Black Keys, and that number is sure to keep on growing. The Black Keys, along with many other phenomenal musicians, took the stage at this year’s Coachella, in Indio, California on April 17th. Whether you are a rocker through and through, an alternative junkie who laughs at the status quo, or a music connoisseur who has developed a particular pallet, The Black Keys will satisfy even the most voracious of musical appetites!
